What’s needed to sell spuds?

Take a look at our farm assurance process!

Have you ever wondered what it takes to get potatoes from a field to your fork? Away from planting and harvesting, we go through a rigorous auditing and assurance process with all our wholesale and retail customers, to show that we’re meeting or exceeding their standards.

This is a big job that takes place across the year, as we start trading with new customers, renew our commitments with existing customers and make sure that we’re still complying with internationally-recognised assurance schemes.

There are lots of things that we have to demonstrate as a UK food producer and exporter, covering different areas of the farm. Above all, we prove that we’re a trusted provider of safe, quality produce, through audits of how we grow our potatoes, and what products are used on them during growth.

Thanks to databasing and mapping software, we can quickly provide customers with a complete list of chemical products used on our crops, and even say what was used on a field, when, and in what quantity. Potatoes can be traced back to the fields they came from, and we can even check when they were harvested and what the conditions were on the day!

How we run the farm site is also audited, and we always demonstrate our support for workers and processes for running a safe working environment through First Aid training, on-site enrolment and procedures for moving around the site and operating machinery.

Sustainable farming is of increasing importance to consumers and assurance bodies, and we make sure that the farm business continues to develop accordingly with a focus on reducing inputs, engaging with environmental schemes and protecting fields to ensure their productivity for years to come.
