Anaerobic Digestion (AD) Plant Operator (Part-time)
We are looking for a part-time Anaerobic Digestion (AD) Plant Operator to join the Pengelly Farms team at our plant in Cornwall.
This is a hands-on, varied role, working within an operational biogas plant and undertaking tasks including machinery operation, feedstock management, assisting with maintenance, administration and general upkeep.

This position is based at the Pengelly Barton AD Plant near Breage, and the ideal candidate will be based within a 30-minute commute of the site. You will be working alongside other operators to support the day-to-day running of the plant, and ensuring that it achieves its maximum output.
This part-time role is very flexible and can be made to suit the individual, but as part of the operating team the role will include working weekends and bank holidays on a rota, providing overnight ‘on-call’ services on a rota, and at times providing holiday cover for other operators.
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Monitoring the plant system and responding accordingly (including remote monitoring while on-call)
- Operating and maintaining the site weighbridge
- Basic feedstock sampling and testing
- Problem identifying and solving
- Health & Safety implementation and compliance
Ideal skills and experiences include:
- Computer literacy (completing spreadsheets, sending emails and creating Word documents)
- Working flexibly, both independently and as part of a team
- Basic maintenance/mechanical skills
- Clear and timely communication
- Punctual and accurate record-keeping
- Being able to plan ahead and prioritise a variety of complex tasks
- A good working knowledge of Health & Safety
Prior experience of working in the AD sector is not required, as full training will be provided. However, a basic understanding of AD/biogas/feedstock systems would be advantageous.
Previous experience of operating telehandlers and forklifts would be beneficial, but training will be provided for using these types of vehicles.
While this role is part-time initially, there may be the opportunity to develop it into a full-time position across our other farm businesses for the right individual, subject to previous experience, vacancies at the time and a discussion with the farm’s management team.
